    Jim Burgess served in Vietnam as a U.S. Air Force captain from 1972 to 1973. He was a pilot with the 554th Reconnaissance squadron at Nakhon Phanom Royal Thai Air Force Base (NKP). His flew electronic reconnaissance missions with the "Igloo White Program."

    Back in the U.S. he was a squadron pilot for the 95th Fighter Interceptor Squadron at Tyndal Air Force Base, Florida from 1973 to 1975. He flew AC 130 gunships with the 919th Special Operations Squadron, Duke Field, Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.

    After leaving the military he flew the Grumman G-164 Ag Cat crop duster from 1975 to 2003.
