Spanning a total of 32 years with United Airlines, Captain Lovett's career and dedication to the commercial aviation industry began in 1941. Embracing both piston and jet aircraft eras, Captain Lovett achieved license and active flight status for Boeing 247, Douglas DC3, DC4, DC6, DC7, Boeing 720 and Boeing 727 aircraft.

In addition to an outstanding career as a commercial aircraft pilot, Captain Lovett made significant contributions to the advancement of aircraft safety through his active participation on the United Airlines accident investigation team and interaction with governmental aviation agencies in the 1950s and 1960s.

Captain Lovett also served as United Airlines' fleet manager for Boeing Aircraft and worked closely with the Boeing Corporation and other commercial aviation companies on configuration, flight safety standards, and flight handling aspects of the Boeing 727 aircraft. His vision for the future advancement of commercial aviation included participation with NASA and Boeing project teams focused on commercial supersonic aircraft development.
