Jack's career as a pilot had its start when he was hired, newly licensed, by a small contractor to fly that company's aircraft. He then ferried new Piper and Cessna airplanes from factories to distributors in all parts of the USA, South America, and Europe. Most of those small planes had no radios or navigational equipment. The old trick of flying by rivers, railroad tracks, and identifying water towers was used extensively!

Commercial flying followed with 31 years' service with US Airways before retirement in 1997.
