I began my aviation career in 1969 when I entered Navy Flight Training, earning my wings in 1970. My first tour was in VP-17 flying P-3's in the Pacific. I made two deployments during the Viet Nam War to Naha, Okinawa and Cubi Point, PI flying missions in the South China Sea, Viet Nam, and Thailand. Following VP-17, I served in VT-3 as a T-28 Instructor at NAS Whiting Field, Milton, FL.

In 1978 I was hired by United Airlines as a B727 Second Officer. I served as a First Officer on B737's, B767's, B747-100's. In 1992 I upgraded to Captain on the B727. In addition, I commanded the DC-10, B747-100 and B747-400. I qualified as a FAA Line Check Airman on the B727, DC-10, B747-100 and B747-400. I turned age 60 in 2006 and was forced to retire. I went to work for Boeing as a B747-400 Flight Instructor in 2007. I taught UPS pilots during their transition to the B747-400. Later I qualified as a B777 Flight Instructor. In 2009, I earned my B787 Type Rating and Flight Instructor Qualification.

I fully retired in 2010 to my home on the Monterey Peninsular. During my career I was always an ALPA volunteer. I served on the Schedule Committee, Safety Committee, Retirement and Insurance Committee and was the Public Relation Coordinator in SFO during our Pilot's Strike in 1985.
