    Joseph Grinder began his flying in 1970 with the US Air Force. He was trained on the T-38 Talon and then went on to fly the B-52 Stratofortress in Vietnam. As part of Operation Linebacker II (December 1972) he earned a Distinguished Flying Cross. He went on to fly as an instructor and piloted the A-37 Dragonfly and the C-130 Hercules. After the Air Force he began flying for Continental Airlines where he is currently the captain on the Boeing 737. His flying career has spanned over three decades and has included many types of planes.
