    Captain Guccione at the age of 12 made the decision to become an airline pilot. On 27 March 1957 at the age of 19 he commenced Naval Flight Training at Pensacola, Florida, and completed his training in Corpus Christi, Texas on 24 September 1958. While in training he flew the T-34, SNJ and S2F aircraft.
    At the completion of training he was assigned to Patrol Squadron Seven (VP-7) flying P2V-5F aircraft out of the Naval Air Station, Brunswick, Maine. While attached to VP-7, operational flights were made to Newfoundland, Iceland, Europe, Morocco and the Caribbean. He departed VP-7 in October of 1962 and was then stationed in Pensacola, Florida and Norfolk, Virginia before separating from the Navy on 23 March 1968.
    Captain Guccione was hired by United Airlines, and began his commercial flying on 25 March 1968. Initial training was completed in Denver, Colorado on the Boeing 727 aircraft. His first assignment was to the New York Domicile at John F. Kennedy International Airport as a 727 Second Officer. In the years that followed he upgraded to First Officer on the DC-10 aircraft and then to Captain on the Boeing 767/757 aircraft. He flew his last trip as an airline Captain between San Francisco and New York's John F. Kennedy Airport, retiring on 31 July 1997.
