    The aviation career of Captain Ken Sauers took flight while attending the University of Illinois (1958-62). There he enrolled in the Army ROTC Flight Training Program. He spent his active duty from 1962-65 as a flight instructor at Fort Rucker, AL. In September of 1965, Ken ioined American Airlines and became a DC-6 Flight Engineer. He spent his first year flying out of Buffalo, New York, then landed in Chicago where ORD became his home base for the span of his career. Ken retired as a captain with American Airlines in August of 1999 after 34 enjoyable years. He frequently sums up his career by saying "It's been a wonderful ride." Now he is spending his retirement doing what he loves best: flying his Cessna 185 and his new Cirrus.
