    Captain Horner began flying to satisfy a hobby interest in 1982. Between his junior and senior year of high school, he obtained his private pilot certificate at Hap’s Air Service in Ames, Iowa. He attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. Obtained Commercial and Instrument Rating in his sophomore year. Started commercially flying as Flight Instructor for Northern Aviation, later became Aero Center 1, in Grand Forks. Left Aero Center 1 as Assistant Chief Pilot to start career with Trans World Airlines (TWA) April 7 1989 as Boeing 727 Flight Engineer. Upgraded to First Officer on DC-9 and MD80 in early 1990s. First type rated in 1998 on Boeing 757/767. Flew as international First Officer prior to upgrading to Captain, MD80 in June 2000. TWA was acquired by America Airlines, January 2001.
