It was the 1927 movie "Wings" where the most amazing flying sequences ever filmed inspired a boy's dream to become an aviator.
At age 9, Larry "earned" his first plane ride by helping with the construction of a hanger at the local county airport.
A government funded program, the Civilian Pilot Training Program (CPTP), provided the opportunity in 1939 to complete ground school, flight training and obtain an instructor's rating.
On the eve of WWII Larry, was training Air Corp cadets to fly in the Stearman Primary H* Trainer at Southern Aviation Flight School in Camden, South Carolina.
In 1943 Larry signed on with United Air Lines and was assigned to the Air Transport Command (ATC) where he flew C54's in the South Pacific theater.
Promoted to captain when he was 25 his career in commercial aviation spanned 36 years, from props to jets, DC3's to 747's, and through some of the most innovative times in aviation history he followed his life's dream. Based in San Francisco he retired in 1979 and became active in RUPA.
