    -Soloed in 2 ½ hours in a Piper T-2 in 1945. In 1970 flew a Cessna 172 from New Jersey to Ft Yukon, AK, with 14-year-old son.
    -1950-1952 was co-pilot on a Boeing Stratocruiser for Pan American Airways.
    -1954 to 1985 flew as flight engineer, co-pilot, and captain for United Airlines. During that time he created landing stopping distance charts for the Viscount, DC-8, Boeing 737, and DC-10.
    -Pioneered shutting an engine down while on the ground for fuel savings. Procedure adopted by United Airlines and other airlines.
    -Taught both sons to fly; oldest son is a 30-year Captain with United Airlines, retiring in 2011.
    -A great career with a great company, especially under Pat Patterson.
