In 1961, learned to fly in the Purdue Pilots Club at Purdue University. Flew OH-21, OH-23, UH-1, OH-53, CH-47 helicopters for the U.S. Army. Starting in 1965, served 4 years active duty with one year in Vietnam. Remaining years served in U.S. Army Reserves, retiring in 1993 as Colonel. Hired by United Airlines in 1969. Flew Boeing 727, 737, 757, 767, 777 and DC-10 aircraft. In 2002, retired as Captain on the Boeing 777.
