    After being discharged from the Navy where he learned to fly, Lou became a pilot for Pennsylvania Central PCA) which became Capital Airlines (CAP) and flew for them when they merged with United Airlines (UAL). During his flying time with CAP and UAL he served on many Air Line Pilots Assoc. (ALPA) committees. As a representative of ALPA he spoke before a subcommittee of the 85th Congress on air safety. He also flew in the Berlin Airlift.

    Upon retirement from UAL, he became a member of the Retired United Pilots Ass'n (RUPA) and served as their Sites Chairman until his death.
