    Captain Michael C. Roth, U.S. Navy (Ret), was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on 9 October 1938. He attended the College of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota, prior to entering the U.S. Naval Academy in June of 1957. He was commissioned an Ensign and awarded the Bachelor of Science degree upon graduation in June 1961. In December of 1969 he was awarded the Master of Science degree in Computer Science at the Naval Postgraduate School and he is a June 1982 graduate of the College of Naval Warfare, Naval War College.
    Designated a Naval Aviator in December 1962, Captain Roth has served operational tours of duty in Patrol Squadron Twenty-Three (VP-23) flying the SP-2H "Neptune"; USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) as the Catapult and Arresting Gear Officer/V-2 Division Officer, a second assignment to VP-23 as Maintenance Officer and Operations Officer, flying the P3B "Orion"; and as Executive Officer and Commanding Officer of Patrol Squadron Forty-Four (VP-44) flying both the P3A and the P3C Update II model "Orion" aircraft.
    Captain Roth's shore tours include assignment as an Inflight Navigation Instructor in Training Squadron Twenty-Nine (VT-29) flying the Douglas C-117 and the Convair T-29 aircraft, and the staff of Commander Patrol Wings Atlantic as Management Information Systems and Readiness Officer. He has also served on the staff of the Superintendent of the Naval Postgraduate School and the Computer Technology Programs Curricular Officer. Washington duty included assignment as Director of the Computer Program Development Directorate on the staff of the Commander Naval Data Automation Command.
    Captain Roth assumed command of Navy Regional Data Automation Center, San Francisco on 5 September 1985. He was designated a Material Professional in October 1985. He retired from active duty on 1 July 1989.
    Captain Roth is married to the former Ruth Ellen Silver of Minneapolis. They have four children and seven grandchildren:
    - Stephen, married to the former Dawn Freehafer have two children, Eric and Tyler
    - Elizabeth, married to William Waller have four children, Michael (deceased), Mathew, Megan, and Thomas
    - Kristin Wilson has a daughter, Nicole and
    - Margaret.
    As a career Naval aviator and aviation enthusiast, Captain Roth has participated in and furthered the course of aviation within the United States Navy. Capt. Roth has passed on this legacy by fostering a passion for aviation and space within his children and grandchildren.
