    Captain Ryan started his aviation career at Trinity College in Hartford, CT in the early 1960s in the Air Force ROTC learning to fly the Cessna 152. Later in his career, he would own and fly his own Cessna. Captain Ryan served in the US Air Force for six years including a year in Southern Asia flying C-123s earning numerous Air Medals and Commendation Medals. After his military tours, Captain Ryan was hired by United Airlines where he flew DC6s, B737s, B727s, DC8s, B757s, B767s, DC10s, and finally retired as a B747 captain with over 20,000 hours flying time. He was very active in ALPA serving as a pilot representative for many years.
