    Richard McKay completed Black-Foxe Military Institute through 12th grade in 1959. Graduated Claremont Men's College with a BA in 1963. Entered US Army in 1963 and attended engineer officers' course at Ft Belvoir, VA. Then attended Rotary Wing Aviation School at Camp Wolters, TX and Ft Rucker, AL. Soloed in 1963 in a Hiller H-23.

    After flight school Richard joined the 11th Air Assault Division at Ft Benning, GA and went to An Khe Vietnam as a Captain with the 227th Assault Helicopter Battalion as a UH-1D instructor pilot.

    After Vietnam, Richard McKay was accepted with United Airlines where he began on the DC-6. He also flew the Boeing 720, 727, Douglas DC-8, and ended 34 years with UAL as a Captain on the Boeing 747-400 flying to Australia. He now keeps his flying skills up on his 1943 Staggerwing Beechcraft.
