    Dick started his aviation career in 1955 with TWA, working at the overhaul base in KCK. Received his pilot's license Sept. 7, 1955. Enlisted in the USAF Oct. 10, 1955. After attending aircraft maintenance school in Amarillo, Texas, he was sent to Yokota AFB, Japan. Wife Patricia accompanied him for the three year assignment. Dick was discharged from the USAF in May of 1964 from Perrin AFB, Sherman, Tex. Dick then attended Spartan School of Aeronautics, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. There he received his Aircraft & Engine Mechanics license. On July 25, 1966 Dick was hired as a pilot for United Airlines. On June 19,1974 Dick and his son Dan made the first flight of their homebuilt bi-plane, a PITT'S SPECIAL Starting with a box of wood, a box of steel, a set of plans, an understanding family, and help from many great friends, IT FLEW. Dick and family have been long time active members of the EAA and IAC. Dick retired from UAL Feb of 1996, but remained active flying his C-185.
