I started flying at the age of 16, soloed at 16, received Private certificate at 17, Commercial at 19, Instructor at 20.
I was hired by United Air Lines in 1952. I flew for the airline for 41 years, retiring in 1993. I flew DC-3, DC-6, DC-7, DC-8, DC-10, Boeing 727 and 747. I performed as a Flight Check Manager on the Boeing 747. Because I was fighting the age 60 rule I remained with the airline for 3 years after age 60 flying as second officer.
Within a few months of retiring I joined the Commemorative Air Force, and have served 11 years to date flying C-47 and the Ju52. I have been Wing Leader for 8 years.
