    Robert S. Goetz began his flying career in the AFROTC FIP (Flight Indoctrination Program) at the University of Wisconsin in 1962. He entered the Air Force in pilot training class 64-H at Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock, TX. He graduated number two in his class and stayed on as an instructor pilot in the T-38. He later transferred to Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio and taught instructor pilots in the T-38.

    He joined United Airlines in August 1969. He flew the 737, 727, DC-8, DC-10, and the 757/767. He was based in Washington National Airport (DCA) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and medically retired in May of 1998.
