Shawn, my first born of 3 sons, made it clear from the time he began to walk and talk that he had a profound interest in airplanes. All through school, most everything pertained to aviation – early drawings, optional reading and reports. At 10 years old, he built a United airplane with an 8’ wingspan out of collected neighborhood scrap lumber, etc. He also built a control tower with a ‘basketball’ head wearing stereo head phones. His 14th birthday present was his 1st flying lesson in a Cessna 152. It confirmed that the center of his world was aviation. Unlike most teenagers, he didn’t look forward to buying a car. He worked many odd jobs and spent every dime on flying lessons instead. His instructor said he was a natural. He excelled and went on to instruct and get all the ratings he could – MEII, float plane (also a BS in college). At 23 he got his ATP & 737 rating. At 22 he landed a job with United Express and is now Captain of a J-41. At 25 he is realizing his lifelong dream and hopes one day to be Captain of a 747. God gave me a gift of Shawn; Shawn thanks God for his gift of flight.
