    Capt. La Rocque began his flying career in November of 1953 as an aviation cadet in class 55-I. He was commissioned as a pilot officer in February, 1955. He flew as a part of the 131st Fighter Interceptor Squadron of the Massachusetts Air National Guard for 11 years where he flew the T-33, F-94A/B/C and F-86H aircraft. He served on active duty in Phalsbourg, France during the Berlin Wall Crisis in 1961/62.

    Hired by United Airlines in September, 1964. Served as an engineer in 1965/66; co-pilot in 1966/84. He was then promoted to captain in August of 1984. He retired from international flying on September 1, 1994 after a 40-year flying career with 20,000 hours.

    Before his retirement his repertoire of civilian aircraft included: DC-6, DC-7, DC-8, Viscount, B-727, B-737, B-757, and the B-767. Military aircraft included: PA-18, T-6, T-28, T-33, F-84, F86, and the F-89.
