    Learned to fly through the Texas A and M University Army ROTC Flight Training in 1962 at Easterwood Field, College Station, Texas. Flew Cessna 140. Earned private pilot's license.
    Served as an officer in US Army from July 1962 through July 1967. Attended Rotary Wing Aviators Course in 1964 at Ft. Wolters, Texas, and Ft. Rucker, Alabama. Flew rotary wing (helicopters) aircraft at Ft. Riley, Kansas, Finthen Army Airfield, Mainz, Germany, and Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, from 1964 through 1965. Served a tour in Vietnam flying helicopters from September 1965 through September 1966 flying out of Phu Loi, Vietnam. From September 1966 through July 1967 served as aviation battalion adjutant and aviator at Ft. Carson, Colorado. Obtained both rotary wing and fixed wing commercial and instrument ratings while based at Ft. Carson, Colorado.
    From July through September 1967, flew helicopters for Alaska Helicopters, Inc. out of Anchorage, Alaska.
    In October 1967, obtained fixed wing flight instructor rating at Jefferson County Airport, Colorado.
    From November 1967 through September 1999 employed as a flight officer for United Airlines. Flew as second officer, first officer, and captain on various aircraft. Completed airline career as a captain on Boeing 777 aircraft, flying both domestically and internationally. Most of career was spent based and flying out of Denver, Colorado.
    Served on various committees for Council 33 of the Air Line Pilots Association and served as Vice Chairman of Council 33 from 1989 through 1991.
