    Tom joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as a flight cadet 2 months after turning eighteen. Flew Chipmunks, Harvards, and T-33s, earned his wings and then flew a tour of operations at the height of the Cold War on the CF-100, the all-weather night fighter designed and built in Canada. After 4 years on 445 squadron in France, returned to Canada. Joined United Air Lines in June of 1964. Flew copilot on the DC-6, Viscount, Boeing 727, then Captain on the Boeing 737, DC-10 and retired on the Boeing 747-400. Active in ALPA, chaired the Professional Standards Committee, took the innovative program ALPA-wide. Flew his beloved 1941 custom Stearman in retirement as part of the “Spirit of Freedom Squadron”.
