    Captain William "Bill" C. Klett was a United Airlines pilot from August 22, 1966 to June 1, 1999. Bill started flying the DC-6 as a flight engineer in 1966 and retired from the B-747-400 as captain in 1999. He was a flight engineer on the DC-6 and DC-8, and a co-pilot on the DC-6, Caravelle, B-727 and DC-8, and a captain on the B-727, DC-10 and the B-747-400. Bill was an LCA (FAA designated Line Check Airman) on the B-727 and DC-10 and was active in the Airline Pilots Association as a member of the SFO LEC Safely Committee, the B-727 Fleet Coordinator, and the ALPA UAL MEC Security Coordinator. Bill was proud to wear the "star" on his ALPA wings pin for honor during the labor strike in 1985. Bill was also involved in General Aviation as a private pilot from December 21, 1962 and throughout his airline career, and after retirement, continued as an owner of a Cirrus SR20 aircraft, and flight instructor in single engine aircraft:
