    William Clarence Stoner served as a pilot for United Airlines, as Senior Captain, from 1945 through 1980.

    He was an aircraft commander, 1stLt, with the 396th Bomb Group, 597th Squadron, flying the B-26 bomber in 1942. In the European Theatre of France and England he flew 65 bombing missions, 28 sorties, and both missions on "D" Day. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Soldiers Medal, the European Ribbon with four battle stars, the Air Medal with 13 clusters.

    He acquired over 34,000 hours of flight time on various heavy aircraft in his career.

    He was the son of Clarence Stoner and Katherine Calahan. Born in Elwood, IL on 10 February 1920. Died 3 January 1997. His wife, Mary Lou Williams Stoner, resides in Siloam Springs, Arkansas.
