A WWII Navy fighter pilot and double Ace with a total of eleven airborne planes destroyed. As commander of VF-2 members of his command shot down 261 enemy aircraft. Capt. Dean was awarded two Navy Crosses, the Bronze Star, five Distinguished Flying Crosses and 12 Air Medals.
