    Ms. Barbara F. Henderson

William G. Henderson was born in Chicago in 1919. He had a very early interest in aviation and began flying lessons at the White Plains, NY airport in 1933 when the family moved to the east coast. He soloed at the age of 14 without knowledge of his parents. He attended Columbia University School of architecture in New York City for four years, but his love of flying won over a career in the business world. He joined Pennsylvania Central Airlines as a pilot in 1941. He remained with the airlines serving both Capital and United until his retirement after 37 years in 1979. His last ten years of service with United were as a captain of a 747 from Chicago to Honolulu.
