Captain Douglas C. Stewart started his aviation career as a Marine Corps aviator just after graduating from Illinois College. He flew various aircraft including the Grumman F9 Cougar.

After his stint in the Marines, Captain Steward began his commercial aviation career as a co-pilot on Connies for TWA. His tenure with TWA was short lived as they had a furlough and he was without a job. Fortunately, United Airlines was hiring and with them he began his 29 year career, retiring in May of 1991.

Captain Stewart flew Convairs and DC-6s before transitioning into jets. He flew co-pilot on B727, DC8, DC10 and B747-100 aircraft. He then went on to complete his career flying captain on the B727, DC10, and B747-100.

Captain Stewart was truly a professional pilot as well as a gentleman. He was liked by all who worked with him be it in the cockpit, in the cabin or on the ground. He was a prime example of how to be an airline captain and all of us who flew with him came away better pilots.

I am honored to promote his name on the Wall of Honor.
