George Pullis was born July 31, 1922 in Murphysboro, Illinois. He fell in love with airplanes as a young boy after watching a barnstormer fly over his family’s small farm.
In WWII he flew P-47 Thunderbolts (Jug) in the 493rd Squadron, 48th Fighter Group. He was the squadron’s only pilot who flew combat missions from the beginning in Ibsley, England to the end in Illesheim, Germany – 125 missions in all.
He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, the Belgium Fourragere, and the European Theatre Campaign with 6 battle stars.
He loves his family, his country, his squadron mates, and flying.
