Airline transport pilot and aircraft owner rated in airplanes, gliders, and hot air balloons. First airplane ride was in 1938 at the age of 8 years. During the early 1950s he owned a Taylorcraft, Cessna 140, and Cessna 190. Employed by Delta Air Lines from 1956 – 1990. He was a captain on Convair 240/340/440, DC-6, DC-7, DC-8, DC-9 and Lockheed L1011 type aircraft. He also flew DC-3s and Convair 880s. After retirement he acquired a hot air balloon rating and ownership in a Piper J-3 Cub.
