James Gombold is an American Airlines Captain on the B777 retiring in August of 2005. He comes from a family that spans many generations of aviation enthusiasts. His father was a B-24 pilot, surviving the Ploesti raids in Romania during WWII, and his uncle was a Navy pilot during that time who was commander of his own aircraft carrier. Growing up in San Diego, there was a lot of aviation history which no doubt had a huge influence on his career. I have followed in his footsteps and am currently flying for Atlantic Coast Airlines with the goal of someday having his job. I feel it only fitting to honor my father with the many before him who have shared the same love of flight.
