    Flight History of CAPT Robert E. Jacob, USN (Ret.)
    1941: 1st flight: Had his first airplane ride with Bill Piper of Piper Aircraft in his yellow J-3
    1946-1947: took private lessons in Daytona Beach and Pensacola, $10/hour flying Piper and Cessna single engine trainer aircraft, and then soloed in Cessna aircraft at Pensacola earning a private pilot’s license
    1953-1954: Navy flight training at NAS Pensacola, FL flying single engine SNJ’s and then advanced training flying PBM-5 multi-engine seaplanes at Corpus Christ, TX
    1954-1956: 1st Squadron: VP-50, NAS Alameda, flying PBM-5S2 Seaplanes, with two deployments to Iwakuni Japan, for flights over and around Koreas. When departing NAS Alameda, the plane was so loaded with cargo, that the Bay did not have enough length. Capt. Jacob obtained express permission to taxi at full speed, go under the Golden Gate Bridge and take off.
    1956-1957: 2nd Squadron: FAWTUPAC-Det B (Fleet AllWeather Training Unit Pacific detachment-B) at NAS Moffett Field, CA, flying T-28 and SNB aircraft equipped for instrument flight
    1957-1959: At Navy PostGraduate School, Monterey, CA. Flight hours upkeep in SNB aircraft
    1959-1960: At US Naval Academy. Flight hours upkeep in Grumman seaplane
    1960-1961: At NAS Lakehurst, NJ. Squadron ZP-3, Flying ZPG-2 Blimps
    1961-1962; At NAS Jacksonville, FL. Refresher training flying multi-engine P5M-2 seaplanes
    1962-1963: At NAS Bermuda. Squadron VP-49, flying P5M-2 seaplanes; including six month deployment to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba for surveillance flights around Cuba during Kennedy Quarantine
    1963-1965: As C.O. NavFac Ramey, Wales. Flight hours upkeep using USAF R4D or DC-3 and Cessna 210 aircraft with Sec-USAF approval
    1965-1968: ON navy Staff (OP-095), Washington. Flight hours upkeep at NAS Andrews flying SNB aircraft, and carrying flag officers on travels to meetings
    1968-1972: at NavElexSysCom, Project CAESAR. Flight hours upkeep at NAS Andrews flying SNB aircraft and carrying flag officers on travels to meetings
