Son of Andrew N. and Henrika Anderson, both born in Finland. I was born on January 21, 1911 at Berkeley, Ca. My father worked his way up from sailor to permanent rank of Lt. Commander and assistant to the Yard Captain of Yerba Buena Island in San Francisco, Ca., during WWII.
I graduated from U.C. Berkeley in June, 1933, majoring in Communications {Electronics ) Engineering. I served as Marine Engineer (Steam Chief Engineer and Port Engineer) at the home port of Richmond and San Francisco for Chevron-Texaco. Also with a 4-year leave of absence during WWII, I was a company grade convoy commander and operations officer in New Guinea, the Lingayen Gulf attack and finally the occupation operation at Hakodate, Hokkaido when Japan surrendered. I spent three months at Aomori and a month in the Tokyo area before returning home. I am 93 years of age. Oh, I served with the U.S. Army Amphibious Engineers.
