    Commander Brent Alfonzo is a native of Poway, California, and a 1993 graduate of the United States Naval Academy. He was designated a Naval Aviator in November 1995, and assigned to Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron TEN (HS-10), Naval Air Station North Island, California, for Fleet Replacement training in the SH-60F and HH-60H Seahawk helicopters.

    Commander Alfonzo's first operational assignment was to Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron FOUR (HS-4), based at NAS North Island, California. During this tour he served as squadron Legal Officer and Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) Officer, completing an Arabian Gulf deployment and multiple underway detachments aboard USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN-72).

    Commander Alfonzo transferred to HS-10 in April 2000 to serve as an Instructor Pilot for the Fleet Replacement Squadron. In May 2001 he graduated from the Seahawk Weapons and Tactics Instructor course in Fallon, Nevada. During off duty hours he completed studies for a Master of Science degree from the University of San Diego.

    In April 2002 Commander Alfonzo reported to Carrier Air Wing FOURTEEN (CVW-14) as the Helicopter Operations Officer, deploying to the Arabian Gulf aboard the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN-72) in support of Operations Southern Watch and Iraqi Freedom.

    In June 2004 Commander Alfonzo returned to the Black Knights of HS-4, where he served as Squadron Weapons and Tactics Instructor, Safety Officer, Maintenance Officer, and Operations Officer. During this tour he made a Western Pacific deployment aboard USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN-74), deployed to the Philippines to conduct maritime interdiction in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, and completed his third deployment to the Arabian Gulf aboard USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN-76), where he participated in combat operations supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

    Commander Alfonzo's most recent assignment was to the Pentagon, serving the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in the National Military Command Center.

    His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4 awards), and various individual, unit and campaign awards. He has accumulated over 3000 flight hours, including over 2800 hours in the H-60F/H.

    Commander Alfonzo is married to the former Anne Simms of San Diego, California. They are the proud parents of two children, their son Carson, born in 2000, and their daughter Avery, born in 2004.
