    Honored by:

    Entered the Navy's V-5 program in 1943 -- winged in 1945. Flew every Navy piston-engine fighter of the era, including duty with the first operational F8F squadron.
    Served as XO of the VA-215 Barn Owls flying A-1 Skyraiders before being hand-picked to participate in Operation Dominic, U.S. nuclear tests in the South Pacific in 1962. Attended the Navy War College, and then commanded the VT-2 Doerbirds at NAS Whiting Field.
    Served in a number of sea-going and shore-based staff billets prior to his retirement in 1971.
