    Cdr. Richardson was a Naval Aviator. He served as a night fighter pilot in World War II and ended the war on board the aircraft carrier Enterprise. He remained in the Navy as an all-weather pilot in squadrons at Quonset Point, Atlantic City and San Diego. He served on carriers including the Shangri-La, the Tarawa and the Bon Homme Richard where he was Assistant Air Boss. He was Aviation Safety Officer on Adm. Lee’s staff at the Naval Air Technical Training Command in Memphis Tennessee. After duty as Administrative Officer, Midway Islands, he was assigned as head of the HERO (Hazards of Electro-Radiation of Ordnance) unit at the Naval Weapons Laboratory, Dahlgren Virginia.
    In retirement Cdr. Richardson founded a business concerned with non-destructive testing equipment and applications following up on his aviation safety training and experience in the Navy. He was recognized by his peers as a creative technical problem-solver.
