    Jean entered POCS in 1974 and was commissioned an Ensign prior to beginning Flight Training at NAS Pensacola and NAS Sufley Field. She was awarded her “Wings of Gold” at NAS Corpus Christi, Texas in June of 1976 as Jean F. McCaig, and married JTJG John D. Rummel., USN, a week later. After jet transition at NAS Kingsville, Texas (TA-4J), she was assigned to VR-30 and later VR-55 at NAS Alameda, CA where she flew CT-39 and C-9B aircraft. Jean was a flight instructor and aircraft commander in Navy C-9Bs, and flew extensively in CONUS and WESTPAC on active and reserve duty.
