From March 1942 to February 1943 William Budington, M.D. served on North Atlantic convoy duty with the U.S. Coast Guard in the mid-ocean escort group.
In 1944, he attended the U.S. Navy School of Aviation Medicine, Pensacola, Florida before serving as flight surgeon at the Coast Guard Air Station, Elizabeth City, North Carolina.
He participated in Air-Sea Rescue Operations at Coast Guard headquarters from 1945 to 1996.
