Mr. John C. Adami
Commander Adami, from Indiana, Pennsylvania, flew in BV17, the first squadron of SB2C Helldivers in the Pacific Theater and flew in the initial air operations over Guadalcanal.
He had just taken off from the WASP in a Douglas Dauntless when it was torpedoed and sunk. His squadron had to follow another carrier'?’s oil slick in order to land. After the war, he was a naval operations officer who trained new air crews in F9F Panthers and Cougars.
He retired with his wife and 10 children in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1968 and passed on September 10, 2003.
