Charles F. Spence (Gaithersburg, MD), a pilot since 1954, is a veteran of aviation public relations and publishing. After a newspaper career, he was promotion manager of "Flying" magazine, assistant director for the Utility Airplane Council of Aerospace Industries Association, and spent 15 years as senior vice president of public relations for the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA). He currently is Washington correspondent for "Flyer" and writes freelance articles for other publications. Spence is also the editor of the McGraw-Hill AIM/FAR.
