    Honored by:
    Mr. Peter Saderholm

Mr. Saderholm graduated from Cornell University in 1955 with a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He proceeded to fulfill his military obligation as an officer in the Army serving mostly at Redstone Arsenal working on the Nike-Ajax. This rekindled an interest he had in rockets from his youth. He worked a short time for Carter Oil but in 1959 he was hired by Morton Thiokol to work on their rocket motor programs. With tours in Huntsville, Brunswick, and Elkton he continued to develop his knowledge of large rocket motors for use in space. While in Brunswick, he was part of the team that successfully static test fired a 156 inch rocket motor on 27 February 1965. In 1974 he accepted a position in Brigham City working at the Thiokol Wasatch Plant which was to develop, successfully fire and eventually build all the solid rocket motors for the NASA Space Shuttle Program. The first static test firing on 21 July 1977 developed over 2 million pounds of thrust and was designed to withstand splash down and refurbishment for subsequent missions. Mr. Saderholm managed the Solid Rocket Motor Analysis and Integration Team at Wasatch until his retirement in 1996. This team's duties included the determination and establishment of solid rocket motor design, performance, operation and flight evaluation. A flight evaluation was performed for each launch and the recovered hardware was inspected before shipment back to the plant. This work required continual contact with Marshall Space Flight Center and all the other major players. Mr. Saderholm, his team, and the Wasatch Plant received many awards for their efforts.
