    CMSgt Colston entered the Air Force in 1953 and was trained as an airborne radio operator. His major assignments were with the 56th Weather Recon Squadron, 6593rd Test Wing, the 552nd AEW&C (Airborne Early Warning & Control) and the 4950th Test Wing.
    In 1979 he attended the Air Force Institute of Technology and was subsequently assigned as Program Manager for the acquisition of aircrew chemical defense equipment.
    During a two-year tour in Vietnam he earned the Joint Service Commendation, 7 Air Medals and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
    Chief Colston is married to the former Marva E,. Jones of Richmond, Virginia, and they are the parents of two children, Cleveland R. Colston III and Tracey E. Colston.
