    Wall of Honor Level:
    Air and Space Friend

    Honored by:
    Mr. James H. Burruss

Cleveland A. Rex, born 8 Feb 1881, died 17 May 1961, was very interested in aerial flight. He was happy with the progress of the Wright brothers; but he thought of a different type of aerial machine. He went to Padre Island, Texas and spent many months there studying the flight of birds. He conceived and designed an Ornithopter-type flying machine. He was awarded U.S. Patent # 1,013,219 on 2 Jan 1912 for the C. A. Rex Aerial Vehicle. Although the funds were never secured for construction, he was convinced of its usefulness until his death.
