    John Lee Gibbons was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He entered the Air Force on April 1, 1966 and served in several locations in Florida and South Carolina until being sent to Vietnam in February, 1968. There he served at Phan Rang, Da Nang and Phu Cat until February, 1969. After that tour he went to Europe and was stationed at Camp New Amsterdam in The Netherlands. He served there until May 1973. At that time he went into the Air National Guard and was stationed at Selfridge Air Force Base, Michigan until April 1979. He moved to Ebbing Air National Guard Base in Fort Smith, Arkansas that year and was serving there in 2002 as a Chief Master Sergeant with the 188th Fighter Wing as the NCOIC Equipment Maintenance Flight.

    In September, 2001 he was activated to take part in operation Noble Eagle for one year.

    The space provided does not allow to list all the awards and medals received during his career but he is proud to be serving his country and has done so for the past thirty-seven years (as of 2002). John is married to Elly M. G. Gibbons and has two children, John and Elizabeth.
