Col Somppi was a P-38 pilot in World War II (WWII) and flew EB-66s and the F-4 in Vietnam. He logged over 170 combat missions including 93 over North Vietnam. He holds the record for EB-66 pilots with 506 combat hours flown.
He won 3 Distinguished Flying Crosses, the Bronze Star, 13 Air Medals, and had 8 battle stars for WWII and Vietnam.
