    Aubrey S. Gaskins entered the Army Air Corps in 1942 as an Aviation Cadet and graduated as a Second Lieutenant. His first assignment was Courtland Air Base in Alabama as a flying instructor. In 1948, he was assigned to the 35th Fighter Group in Japan and flew P51s and F-80s during the Korean War.

    Subsequent assignments included Washington, D.C., Wiesbaden, Germany, and Saigon, Vietnam. In 1970, he became Wing Base Commander at Richards-Gebaur AFB in Kansas City, Missouri. His final assignment was with the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. Decorations awarded Colonel Gaskins include the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross Air Medal, and the Joint Chiefs Commendation Medal.

    Inspired by observing military aircraft as a young man in his native Norfolk, Va., Colonel Aubrey S. Gaskins served his country and his beloved United States Air Force with distinction for 31 years. He retired in 1975 and returned to his home town area of Tidewater, Virginia.
