Col. Rianda entered the Air Force in 1968 through Officer Training School (OTS) after graduating from the University of California-Berkeley. He graduated from Navigator School in 1970 and became a KC-135 Navigator. He participated in the Linebacker II operation in December 1972. He completed his active duty career as the Commander of the Air Force storage area at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base (AMARC).
Col. Rianda went on to be an Air Force JROTC instructor at Desert View High School in Tucson.
