    Chester N. Hasert Col, USAF (ret)

    Aeronautical Engineer who made significant contributions to USAF aeronautics from 1942-1970.

    Graduate of MIT and Caltech.

    Served during World War II in the US Army Air Corps 1942-47 as a Research and Development Officer (Flight Dynamics Specialist), contributing to the development of a number of AAF airplanes including:
    XP-59A - first jet plane designed and built in the US
    X-l - first supersonic airplane

    Flight testing of the Northrup MX-334 flying wing test bed led to the design of: XB-35 and B-49 flying wing bombers, and ultimately to the B-2 "stealth" bomber.

    After the War, was a member of the vonKarman Scientific Advisory Group; writing "Toward New Horizons", appraising future technological developments as requested by AAF commanding general Hap Arnold.

    1952-1970 served as Executive Secretary, and later Technical Director, of the USAF Scientific Advisory Board, with contributions to research and development of many new systems and programs such as conceptualization and development of the X-15 Research Airplane Program, design and development of the B-52 Bomber and the USAF's first intercontinental ballistic missile, the Atlas. Also assisted in the early design of the USAF's "Dyna-Soar" which provided foundations and supporting research for the Space Shuttle.
