Elizabeth H. BRANCH, Col USA Ret, motivated by her brother Irving's service in the Air Force, entered the US Army in July 1942, when women were first accepted. She retained her interest in the Air Force, both in service overseas (Europe and China) and through service as a plans and operations officer on the Army General Staff and later on the Joint Staff in the Pentagon. Her final assignment was as Command Historian, US Military Assistance Command, Vietnam, from which she retired in September 1972 with 30 years' service.
