Col. E. S. Williams was in service for 33 years. He joined the Nevada National Guard on 28 July 1937. He was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant to the U. S. Army on 11 May 1942 in the Infantry. He was transferred to the U. S. Air corps on 4 December 1942. He took flight training in P-38 Fighters. He then went overseas to 7th Photo Group in England and flew photo recon missions over Germany until 29 October 1944 when he was bailed out over Germany. He was captured and went into POW camp Stalag 3 in Sagan, Germany. He was liberated on 7 May 1945. He then came back to 1st Fighter Group Jet later in 1945. He went to Korea into the 9th Fighter Squadron, 49th Fighter Group then to 531st Fighter Squadron flying F-100s. He was Chief Air Ops CINPAC for Vietnam War. He was promoted to Colonel on 17 March 1962. He also joined the Sheriff's Reserve in San Bernardino County.
