Col. Mims was commissioned Second Lieutenant upon graduation from pilot training in 1943. During WWII he served in the China-Burma-India Theatre supporting American and Chinese forces. He was designated a Command Pilot in 1958. He served eleven years in the Air Weather Service during which he flew WB-50s in weather reconnaissance (including hurricane and atomic testing) in the Pacific. He also served eight years in the Congressional Liaison Division of the Secretary of the Air Force. His decorations include the Legion of Merit, three Distinguished Flying Crosses, five Air Medals, the Air Force Commendation Medal and the China War Memorial Medal. Col. Mims retired in 1968. He is a graduate of the University of Maryland.
